Das Programm Leopardus (2004-2017)
The program has been coordinated by Thierry Pécout. It is based on several collaborations, but four institutional partners have more closely been involved in the program.
- The research group on powers and societies in medieval and modern western Europe (Québec University of Montreal, University of Montreal, University of Ottawa, Laval University of Québec).
- The UMR 6130 CEPAM (Centre d’études Préhistoire, Antiquité, Moyen Âge) of SophiaAntipolis University of Nice.
- The UMR 7303 TELEMME (Temps, Espaces, Langages, Europe MéridionaleMéditerranée of the University of Aix-Marseille).
- The UMR 7298 LA3M (Laboratoire d’Archéologie Médiévale et Moderne en Méditerranée) of the University of AixMarseille.
This international program is intended to provide a scientific edition of the general survey which was carried out in the counties of Provence, Forcalquier and Ventimiglia, by the archpriest of Benevento Leopardo da Foligno, on behalf of his master, king Robert of Anjou, between 1332 and 1334, in the time when Provence and the kingdom of Naples were a single principality.
The program has received the economic support of the following institutions:

|
Conseil départemental des Alpes-Maritimes |
|
Conseil départemental des Alpes-de-Haute-Provence |
|
Le Conseil départemental des Bouches-du-Rhône | |

The documents related to the survey are twenty-eight registers, some of which have copies, preserved in the archives of Bouches-du-Rhône. Some are brief, but most have more than one hundred folios. They include the information collected by the royal inquisitors dispatched by king Robert in August 1331 in each administrative district of the county of Provence. They record all the income the royal court could count on. They denounce abuses and infringements of princely rights.
The research activities were carried out by about 30 researchers, with the coordination of the medievalists of the MMSH (UMR TELEMME and UMR LA3M) and of the UMR CEPAM of Nice. This long-term programme fits into the renewal of the studies on the Angevin dynasty in the last centuries of the Middle Ages; during the last decade, such studies have involved historians from the universities of Angers, Aix-en-Provence, Milan, Naples, Zagreb. Since 2004, this cooperation has resulted in frequent scientific exchanges, especially on the occasion of the 12 annual colloquia, which took place in Aix-en-Provence between 2004 and 2015, and of the international colloquium of 2009.
